Bio

Dr. Lauren Gardner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining JHU she was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Research Fellow in the School of Public Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney. She remains a leading member of the Research Centre for Integrated Transport Innovation (rCITI), and Visiting Scientist at Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Dr. Gardner has successfully led interdisciplinary research efforts on the emerging topic of bio-secure mobility, which utilizes network optimization and mathematical modeling to improve our understanding of disease spreading patterns and risk. Her work has resulted in several core methodological developments and innovative solution techniques which have progressed the state of the art in global epidemiological risk assessment. She has received research funding from organizations including Australian Government National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC), Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Queensland Health Department, Transport for New South Wales and GoGet Car Share, and has published over 70 peer reviewed journals articles and conference proceedings on a range of infectious disease and network modelling applications. Dr. Gardner is an invited member of multiple international professional committees, including the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Aviation Security and Emergency Management, the TRB Network Modelling Committee, the TRB subcommittee on Health and Transport, and the INFORMS Health Applications Society. She teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on network modeling and transport systems.
