Abstract

FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data has become accepted as vital to reproducible scientific research. Since the early days of the COVID pandemic, the MIDAS Coordination Center has been working to collect and curate data and other resources of potential interest to infectious disease modelers. This webinar will provide an introduction to the MIDAS Data Catalog, which contains FAIR descriptions of over 2000 datasets and digital resources spanning many diseases worldwide. These resources include the Project Tycho collection of historical disease data worldwide, and the Curated Archive of Global Public Health Data, which contains data as reported by public health agencies worldwide. We will demonstrate the use of the Data catalog and discuss the data science efforts needed to make the data FAIR, including our data ontology of relevant terms, metadata models used to describe the data, and approaches for harmonizing diverse datasets.
