Topic: A Mechanistic Modeling Framework for Pathogen Dynamics in Hospital Built Environments
Abstract
Healthcare environments can act as complex ecological systems that sustain and redistribute infectious pathogens through surfaces, air-handling systems, microbial refugia, and human activity. In this webinar, I will present a mechanistic mathematical modeling framework for pathogen dynamics in hospital built environments integrating patient shedding, environmental contamination, HVAC-mediated transport, and cleaning interventions. The model aims to investigate how environmental features, airflow, and human turnover influence pathogen persistence and transmission risk, providing a systems-level framework to evaluate infection-control and environmental engineering strategies in healthcare settings.
