Ganna Rozhnova

Bio

Dr. Ganna Rozhnova is an Assistant Professor in Infectious Disease Modeling (Infection and Immunity Research Program) at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care at the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands and an affiliated researcher at the BioISI—Biosystems & Integrative Sciences Institute in Portugal. Prior to this, she earned a PhD in Statistical Physics (summa cum laude) at Lisbon University, and held postdoctoral and visiting positions at Manchester and Cologne Universities. Her research centers on the application of infectious disease modeling to answer questions and support evidence-based policymaking in public health. Her mission as a researcher is to help improve people’s health by providing guidance to various stakeholders on the implementation of public health interventions to formulate an effective response to infectious diseases. More recently, her research has focused on understanding the spatio-temporal dynamics and evolution of HIV, SARS-CoV-2, influenza, CMV, childhood infections, and on evaluating the impact of interventions such as, e.g., vaccination or treatment, on the dynamics of these diseases on different scales (e.g., within patient, hospital or population). Research topics where she expects to make major contributions in near future are HIV elimination among men who have sex with men in the Netherlands, development of tailored interventions for HIV and childhood diseases, impact of promising HIV cure strategies on HIV transmission and (post-)pandemic dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses.
