Bio

Geoffrey Fairchild is a Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) computer scientist focused on using modern data science techniques to solve real-world activity-based intelligence problems. His toolbox includes various techniques for large-scale parallel data processing, heterogeneous data fusion, machine learning, statistical modeling, natural language processing, optimization, and agent-based modeling. Some key application areas he has worked on include disease modeling, surveillance, and forecasting, as well as patterns-of-life analysis and anomaly detection. He is passionate about mentoring and has overseen the work of over 20 students and postdocs during his time at LANL. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Iowa in 2011 and 2014, respectively, and B.S. degrees in both mathematics and computer science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008. He began at LANL as a graduate research assistant in 2012 and became a staff scientist in 2015.
