The US Federal Government is looking for public comments on a proposed rule change that would impact the availability of data vital for modeling purposes. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) has proposed a change that would provide the regulatory framework to require the continued reporting of hospital data after the current Public Health emergency ends. This proposed rule change would preserve the high-quality, low-latency stream of data that many of us use from the HealthData.gov website on COVID-19 and influenza hospitalizations., thus ensuring the availability of a robust data system, covering basically the entire country.
The proposed changes are published in the Federal Register. Relevant text can be found in pages 28641-28645. Comments from concerned parties can be submitted until June 17. Please consider taking a few minutes to provide CMMS with comments on appropriate policies for these data sources.
