Modeling COVID-19 to inform humanitarian operations

This is a virtual event to mark the public release of the code and documentation of the ‘OCHA-Bucky’ predictive model for COVID-19 spread and mitigation in humanitarian crises. We will have speakers from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), The Rockefeller Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, and the World Health Organization followed by a Q&A session.

Participants will learn why and how the model was created, and how it is being used to inform humanitarian operations in six countries: Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan. We will also outline how to access and customize the model for new applications, and discuss the increased use of predictive analytics in humanitarian response more broadly.
