The MIDAS Catalog has added entries for 237 new COVID-19 datasets from Project Tycho. Project Tycho is an open-access repository for global health data providing datasets in a standardized format to improve interoperability and reuse and that is more compliant with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) guidelines. The newly released datasets contain COVID-19 data for multiple countries around the world in a standardized format – the updated Project Tycho data format v1.1.
The new Project Tycho COVID-19 datasets contain daily and weekly case counts, deaths, recoveries, and hospitalizations for 237 countries from 2020 to 2021. Some datasets also include demographic information and information at lower administrative levels (states, province, district, etc.). The datasets were created from publicly available official COVID-19 data from public health agency and government websites; data from many of the sources were automatically scraped or downloaded at regular intervals before being processed into Project Tycho format, and will also be made available in the original format in the future. Full information about the sources of each dataset is available in the metadata. In addition to the metadata in the MIDAS Catalog, metadata is available for each dataset in DATS JSON and DataCite XML formats on the Project Tycho website. Further information about the data and sources is also included in the README for each dataset.
