NSF PREPARE Workshop Series: Vaccine preventable diseases in a post-COVID world

Date/Time: Tuesday June 7 and Wednesday June 8, 10:00am-3:10pm Eastern (USA)

Register here: Zoom link

Scope: The goal of the workshop is to identify key challenges in the control of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) such as measles and polio, especially after the disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these (new) challenges include increased or altered vaccine hesitancy, disruptions to immunization services, and weakened public health infrastructure. On the other hand, there have been some major advances in the past two years, such as disease surveillance, contact tracing, and vaccination supply chain and delivery, which might be helpful in the control of VPDs. The focus of the workshop will be global, since VPDs are a concern all over the world, though key issues in high, medium, and low-income countries may be different. There will be four sessions:

  1. Vaccine acceptance and opportunity: the roles of hesitancy, global sharing, and behavioral response in VPD immunization coverage
  2. Destabilization and VPDs: operational disruption, health system resilience, and the impact of COVID-19
  3. Epidemiological and immunological factors in VPDs
  4. Data and modeling challenges and opportunities in the pandemic and post-pandemic era
