The Colorado COVID-19 Modeling Group is looking for a software engineer to play a key role in the development and evaluation of mathematical modeling tools for SARS-Cov-2.
This individual will be the lead software developer on a team of scientists working to refine tools for estimating the potential future course of SARS-CoV-2 in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West, accounting for regional variability in policy, vaccine uptake, and behavior. A successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong initiative and leadership in both software development, mathematical model design and ability to work collaboratively on challenging problems. This is an independent contract position that can be carried out remotely.
This is an opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team including biostatisticians, epidemiologists, mathematicians, infectious disease modelers and economists and to collaborate with state and local health officials to inform COVID-19 response in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West. The team places a strong emphasis on innovative, collaborative research and the communication of analyses to stakeholders. Compensation is competitive.

· Four years of experience as a software engineer, data engineer, or data scientist
· Two years of experience using Python in a professional setting
· Experience collaborating with other developers using Git
· Experience building data pipelines to process external sources into a centralized data warehouse
· Ability to solve quantitative problems using statistical and mathematical methods in Python/numpy/scipy/pandas
· Experience building Python-based mathematical models in an academic research setting
· Knowledge of ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, and other applied mathematics tools
· Training and/or experience in mathematical modeling of SARS-CoV-2 or other infectious diseases
· Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
· Ability to work independently on data analysis and reporting
· Ability to work well with a diverse team
