Dr. Aguolu is currently a second-year postdoctoral associate at the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Infectious Diseases, Yale University. Her research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, health disparity, vaccine acceptance, and graphic medicine. Dr. Aguolu is working with Dr. Saad B. Omer’s research group where she is managing several projects across several institutions in the United States and abroad. She is collaborating on several infectious disease projects focusing on epidemiology of respiratory infections such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), group B streptococcus, and the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. She designed and implemented an educational comic book to address HPV vaccine knowledge gaps and misconceptions among college student aged 18-26 years. The comic book won a Silver American Advertising Federation (ADDY) (Akron, Ohio) and Hiram College Graphic Medicine awards. This work is already benefitting from cross-institution collaborations between Ohio Department of Health - HPV Vaccination Committee/School Based Committee, Ohio Partners for Cancer Control (OPCC), a statewide consortium dedicated to reducing the cancer burden in Ohio, and College of Public Health, Kent State University. They will study the impact of the HPV Education Comic Book on high school students in Ohio. Her goal is to further move this project toward improving knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors regarding infectious disease prevention, reducing health disparities, and improving health equity. She earned her doctoral degree in Epidemiology from College of Public Health, Kent State University, where her research focused on infectious diseases, vaccine acceptance, and health disparity. She graduated with Master’s in Public Health from Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master’s in Public Health/University of Akron, Ohio, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi, Anambra, Nigeria. She had some years of pediatrics residency training in the US before moving to public health.
